This is STEP 3 in the Data Recovery process.
Depending on the nature of the defect (e.g. the mechanical defects that may require replacement of parts, there may be erors in firmware, software recovery) and the type of storage unit, the actual data recovery could take from one to thirty days (however, the average recovery time is 24 to 48 hours);
The Storage Unit / Media is operated through specialized equipment and software. When the replacement of physical parts is required, this is done in a dust-free environment in Python Data Recovery (Clean Room Class 100);
